Home On The Range

I think I am on a Yellowstone kick. I forgot how many lovely pictures I took my time there, and am just as excited today to go through them as I was when I first went through my camera.

I’m pretty darn positive this big guy was just waiting for me to take his picture. I could almost see the postcard frame around him and the Yellowstone National Park written in the corner.

I’m lucky to have gotten the snapshot before my near-death experience. You see, going up this side of Yellowstone there are little mountains, which means that you not only are going up and down nice gradient slopes but you also have a wall of hillside over your head to one side of the car and a drop off on the other. My friend was already being quite a tense driver for this reason, as she had never driven in the mountains. Me, being the tourist, am excited for the view and not worried at all about the drive. That’s when all-of-the-sudden-out-of-nowhere this HUGE bull moose comes bolting down the steep slope from above our car onto the road right in front of us. It saw us just as fast as we saw it; we slammed on our brakes just as he slammed on his. Luckily for us, he had enough momentum to carry him down the drop off on the other side and she had excellent reflexes in combination with good enough brakes to stop on a dime. Still, less than 12 inches away is far too close to be next to a giant moose. To add to our fear induced scream, neither of us were wearing seatbelts due to our extremely painful sunburn we acquired the first 12 hours of direct sunlight walking through the park. Let me tell you, we more than happily buckled up after we stopped screaming.

That wasn’t a story I called home to mom about, either. She got to see all the lovely Yellowstone pictures without having to worry about the disappearance of her daughter.

Foggy Mornings

I’m positive I have told you all before that I love fog. It isn’t only because the smell of it, but also there is so much mystery and peace and stuff hidden all over in it. I can honestly say it is my favourite time to go for a nice long run.

Anyway, this is a pic taken from a foggy morning up in Yellowstone National Park. I love it, and have to say the second time I went to YNP and there wasn’t fog, I was slightly (very) disappointed.

Peace

I have found that I quite like cardiology. I would like to think it is not all the little hearts I get to draw throughout my notes, but more how far common sense can make me sound like I know what I am talking about. The hearts truly do help, though.

Because of this, I have been able to breathe. I haven’t been losing hair at the normal “stressed out school rate.” I have found balance. Peace.

It is the type of peace that I haven’t found other than when I am hiking in nature or lying in my bed, my safety zone. The picture above was taken during one of those peaceful nature hikes I went on with my sister. I’m hoping I can make it back to this spot this fall when the leaves are just a bit more fall-like with the little bit of extra time this class is giving me. It’s a perfectly beautiful spot, and I’m hoping I can manage to sneak a few more pictures to share with you all.

Sitting Still

I’m back in the swing of things, and have been doing my darn hardest to dominate my courses this year. Translation: a lot of sitting in classrooms, study rooms, or library rooms.

Good thing our classrooms no longer look like this one. Ours are much more… appealing. I’ll count that as a plus.

I took this quick snapshot from the Lake of the Woods Steam and Gas Show. Although I was there this year as well, I have to admit this picture was from a couple of years ago. I, sadly, forgot to bring my camera.

His Eyes, Her Eyes

If I tell you nothing else, I want you to know this: I will love you until tomorrow. The sweetest words a stranger could say, she thought, as they fell into bed– fell into love. Tomorrow never comes. The love that comes in fairy tales and is awoken by a kiss. She, too, would surely be awoken by a kiss tomorrow morning. The sun shinning in behind him, a perfect smile to awaken to. She has seen it at least a million times in music videos, commercials, and movies. Now she too, will spend her life happy.

If I tell you nothing else, I want you to know this: I will love you until tomorrow. Tomorrow isn’t that far away, he thought, since it wasn’t even midnight yet. And they fell into bed– fell into lust. I can wake up tomorrow and be home before breakfast. That is, if I can make it out before she wakes up. I bet I can even be quiet if I wake up still drunk. He has seen it at least a million times in movies, and a million more times in life. And now he too, will spend his life happy.

Wants and Needs

I can’t give you everything I want to; but that’s okay, because you can’t give me everything I need.

Beautiful Blogger Award and Life

Cheers to being back in school!

I feel like I should apologize for the significant lack of posting this summer, however, I don’t think I will. I’m happy that I took the time off; I’d like to hope that you are all happy that I didn’t post something just to post something for you.

I was also quite surprised to return to see two “Beautiful Blogger Award” nomination things waiting for me! I’d like to thank Jaimee and Mr. Weissel for nominating me, and I urge you to check out their sites as well.

Apparently there are rules to this game. So, I’ll nominate some of my favourites (in randomized order) to receive the beautiful blogger award as well, and then I tell you seven facts about myself.

http://fortheloveofnike.com/  I really wish I could long-term borrow all of her shoes. And probably her closet as well. *crossing fingers she has big feet like me*

http://brokenlightcollective.wordpress.com/ This is a site that is dedicated to various artists who have struggled with some sort of mental illness and care to document and share their struggles. All I can say is that there are some wonderful artists out there who are much stronger than I could ever be.

http://gaia365.wordpress.com/  His photos keep me in awe. There really isn’t much more to say.

http://ojproctor.wordpress.com/ I love his unique photography perspective. Not going to lie, he probably somewhat changed the way I look through a camera.

http://jdhascup.wordpress.com/ His blog fills me with wanderlust. And he makes me jealous that I am cooped up in a windowless classroom 98% of my day.

http://domesticdivamd.com/  Funny medical stories and there’s food?? Count me in!

I don’t get much time to read other people’s blogs, for some odd reason.

Now for seven facts, and I hope I don’t accidentally repeat any from my birthday facts post.

1. In high school I considered going to college to be a fashion designer. I also considered being a chiropractor.

2. I like to cook/bake in my free time. In fact, I recently made a homemade stuffed crust pepperoni pizza. Gosh, I love pizza.

3. I know I have mentioned this in the past somewhere on here, but I am a coupon-er. Like almost extreme coupon-er. I refuse to pay more than $0.50 for a tube of toothpaste or $1.oo for a bottle of shampoo/conditioner.

4. I wish there were more strong, positive female role models in the world to guide the girls growing up in today’s society. It makes me terribly sad that people look up to Snooki, the Kardashians, and Lindsey Lohan (She’s still around, right?). I want them to know that in the grand scheme of life, it doesn’t matter what colour your hair is, how white your teeth are, or what clothes you are wearing. You don’t need a boyfriend to be happy. You don’t need to put out to be loved. It even doesn’t matter how many facebook friends you have or how many people follow you on twitter or instagram. Spend your time doing things that do matter: helping others, education, and doing things that make you passionate about life.

5. I would like to train for a half marathon, and be ready to run one by this coming summer.

6. I may or may not have impulse purchased 22 new bottles of nail polish less than a week ago. I can hardly contain my excitement for when my packages arrive in the mail! (I have mentioned in the past that I kind of have an addiction. Do they have rehab for this sort of thing? It doesn’t really matter, because I wouldn’t want to go.)

7. Finally! I have been listening to heart sounds on my computer while I study to try learn them for the cardiology portion of my class. I’ve been listening to 10 second clips repeat themselves over and over and over again for around 8 hours a day.

Jeez, that got long! And now back to studying. Cardiovascular infectious disease day. Can’t wait.
